As my last little’s birthday is quickly approaching, I find myself thinking about all the birthdays and birthday parties I’ve put on and holy crap I almost fell asleep thinking about how exhausting it is! Why do we as moms feel the need to go all out for certain birthdays that no one (not even ourselves) will remember?! Thank goodness for that one mom who’s super camera happy and snaps everything from pictures of my decorations and even the destruction that is the aftermath of the actual party. Otherwise I’d have no recollection of who was there, what happened or how truly happy my child was covered in icing and gift wrap.
So again, why do we do it?!
I don’t know about you but I do it for those little moments of random smiles, silly giggles and huge hugs from your kids that really do appreciate all that you’ve done just for them. Will they remember it the next day? Maybe. Will they remember it next week? Probably not. (Can’t really blame them, I have a hard time remembering what I had for lunch just a few hours ago!)
But we throw these parties and we give so much of ourselves and after all is said and done we WILL do it again. We will do it for whatever reason we want to in that moment and for all the other moments when our kids are in total bliss!
Moms do things most people wouldn’t dream of doing! We make the cakes, we hang up the streamers and we throw one heck of a Moana party! (This may or may not be our theme this year). We question if there will be enough food, enough activities for the kids, what if no one shows up… etc. We put all of our blood sweat and tears (literally tears) into it and then we see just how happy our kids are and it makes it all worth it because when it comes to our kids, NOTHING is out of the question.
Now excuse me while I go back to icing these cupcakes and licking my fingers in the process 😉

I have been searching for the perfect watch for the longest time. Something elegant and high quality, yet unique enough to fit with my sense of style, and sturdy enough for my demanding life. That’s why I jumped at the chance to partner with JORD Watches! I had been drooling over their stunning time pieces since I first heard about them a few months ago. I placed my order and was very pleasantly surprised with how quickly it was shipped out! They even sent me an email with the tracking number to let me know when it would arrive!
And there it was, waiting for me as I approached my front door. A little black box with one happy word that made my heart leap in my chest a little as I read it. J O R D. I was beyond excited as I quickly grabbed it off the stoop and brought it in to begin the great unveiling! As a graphic designer, my natural inclination is to immediately take note of the packaging details. I was expecting a fine product, but I have to say I was somewhat blown away by the care and consideration that was put into the presentation of this brand. I chose the Frankie Series: Koa & Ash, and couldn’t be happier with my choice. You can tell it’s a luxury item before you even take it out of the finely carved wooden box it comes in. The watch itself is luxuriously lightweight and opulent, yet visually substantial and hearty, wrapped around a plush, canvas pillow. I was impressed by everything from the color of the stunning wood grain, to the design details of the clasp and connected links. I have been wearing it non-stop since it arrived and am in love with how comfortable and versatile it is!
And now I will get to the best part about this collaboration, YOU! You now have the chance to win a $100.00 gift card towards a JORD watch of your very own! Just head on over to https://www.jordwatches.com/g/aubriofsorts to enter AND guess what, you will receive a 10% off code just for entering! Even if you already have one of your own, I bet you have more than a few people in your life who would LOVE to receive the gift of a timeless JORD timepiece! The holidays are just around the corner, and this contest will end on November 4th, so now is the perfect time!
Happy entering and good luck! xoxo
How luscious is this color, you guys?? When I think of lavender, images of chickens or frogs don’t normally pop into my head first, but it is really fascinating to see animals in this shade. I think most people automatically imagine the flower of the same name, yet this beautiful shade of purple can be found in lots of different areas of nature and design. Lavender is a very soothing yet lively color, and has both feminine and masculine qualities.
According to colorpsychology.org Lavender is associated with youth and vitality, as well as royal kingship, creativity, and springtime. Depending upon the context, lavender can conjure feelings of order and peace, or disorder and chaos. There is a wildness to the color that is best represented in unexpected forms, like say, on a chicken, or in a drink or hair color for instance. Storm clouds will sometimes take on this color right before a squall, and yet a slightly different shade of lavender can be seen in a peaceful, serene sunset. I think this is what makes this particular color so fun to play with in design, because it can evoke so many different feelings depending on what you choose to do with it.
I hope you enjoy these lively lavender images I’ve put together here. Thanks for reading! XOXO

I had planned on writing a few more blog posts this month, but…life happens. Last month I let my son choose the color for February’s post , so it only seemed fair to let my daughter choose this month. I didn’t really even need to ask which color she wanted me to write about because she chooses pink for EVERYTHING! And since the D.C. Cherry Blossoms are starting to bloom, and we welcomed in Spring this month, I thought a pastel blush pink was an excellent choice.
Blush pink is such a great color because it can add a feminine touch without being too overwhelming. It’s easy on the eyes and calming on the senses, which makes it a really good color for a baby nursery or girl’s room. Very Well Mind states that “Pink is essentially a light red and is usually associated with love and romance.” While this is well known by most, it is important to remember what images and associations people will conjure up when you are choosing colors for your design project.
In any area of design, if you want to create or add a soft, soothing element, adding a touch of blush pink is fantastic way to achieve that. I hope you enjoy these shades of blushy pink color inspirations. Thanks for reading! XOXO

For February’s color of the month I let my son decide which color to discuss on the blog, and to my surprise, he chose GOLD! At first I wasn’t too sure about it, but the more I thought it over the more excited I got. A little bit of gold goes a long way. Too much in any type of design and it can very quickly become gaudy or even tacky looking, but the right amount of gold can create a very luxurious, enchanting, and opulent effect.
Gold is associated with achievement, success, wealth, sophistication, elegance and well-being. We give gold metals to the best athletes, gold stars to the the brightest students, and we get “Gold Status” when we spend a lot of money at Starbucks. It is no wonder then that gold is seen as an uplifting and positive color. According to color-meaning.com , gold is also associated with enlightenment and heightened spirituality. Perhaps this is why enlightened beings are often depicted with gold halos around their heads in old paintings.
The following examples prove just how powerful this color can be. Gold has been making its way into all different areas of design. When implemented in appropriate ratios, this color can create a bold statement in anything from graphic art to living room decor.

Happy Galentine’s Day, y’all! This is a little LOVE poster design project I’ve been working on and thought today would be a great time to share it with you! They make great cell phone backgrounds, so feel free to use them if you’d like.
I hope you are showing love to all of your gal pals today, and that you are feeling uplifted by love as well, because we all rise by lifting others. So let’s #spreadsomelove today for all the things we do, for all of the many hats we wear, and all the times we have been totally exhaustipated (def. “too tired to give a crap”) but we’ve shown up anyway. And always remember that “you are so brilliant and kind and stupid-hot” – Leslie Knope 🙂

Happy Super Bowl weekend!! I know all the football fans out there are getting pumped for the big game on Sunday. I’ve gotta say, I was pretty pumped to get this gorgeous, Cheyann Chambray Ruffled Dress from Zuna Apparel the other day! I am totally in LOVE with the fit and versatility of this dress! The fun, flirty ruffles are perfectly on trend for this Spring, and since I am crazy into layering dresses right now, I paired it with a micro floral blouse and high top ankle boots to show just how versatile this dress can be. I am extremely impressed with the quality as well. The straps are adjustable so you can even tailor the fit if you’re shorter like me. The wrap style is so flattering, and I really love the genius snap closure on the front, exactly where I would have put a safety pin on wrap dresses I’ve worn before. I know I will be getting a ton of wear out of this dress, because it’s super comfortable and perfect for so many different occasions!
I’m such a sucker for names, you guys. I always want to know the meaning behind them; people’s names, company names, pet names, you name it (insert knee slap here). Maybe that’s why I find the name ZUNA so appealing, because it means abundance and is defined as “an extremely plentiful or over sufficient quantity or supply”. The Abundance Blog, which is part of the Zuna brand, is full of inspiration and encouragement for living an abundant life, and it is totally worth checking out if you haven’t already, because who doesn’t need more encouragement in their life?? I know I do!
I really hope your team wins tomorrow, but even if it doesn’t, YOU are still a winner because I am teaming up with Zuna Apparel to offer you a 15% discount on the purchase of ANY Zuna Apparel item! Just use the code —>>> aubriofsorts15 at checkout to get the discount! This way if you are bored in between super bowl commercials (because let’s face it, that’s really the only reason we watch the SB) you can just do a little shopping to pass the time 🙂

If you’re anything like me, around the middle of January you start to pine (no pun intended) for some of the sumptuous vegetation of Summer. Naked trees and wilted grass, combined with cold temperatures that keep us bundled up indoors can start to take its toll on us nature lovers. That’s why God created the EVERGREEN! Even in the coldest, darkest, most barren months of Winter, the Evergreen maintains it’s color and reminds us that warmer days are coming, which is why I chose the ever-hopeful Evergreen for January’s Color of the Month.
According to Sensationalcolor.com, the psychological effect of the color green stimulates our pituitary gland, which relaxes our muscles, increases histamine levels, and causes an overall calming, stress-relieving response on our minds and bodies.
Before writing this blog post, I thought evergreens were only conifers like pine trees and Christmas trees, but I was surprised to learn that tropical plants growing in warm climates are considered evergreens as well, so thank you for that little bit of knowledge, Wikipedia. Okay, enough with the geeky forest talk, let’s move on to the real purpose of this post: color inspiration! Hopefully all this greenery will help stave off your foliage cravings for at least a little while longer. Thanks for reading!
Whenever I think about Christmas, images of bright reds, greens, and golds immediately pop into my head. That’s because Christmas is usually done in these colors. It’s predictable and reassuring, and there is definitely something to be said for that. But there is something to be said for the simple elegance and unexpectedness of black and white decor as well. It’s always fascinating to me when you take things down to their most fundamental form. Like a shadow, the shape is an implied version of the thing itself, and it changes the way you see it. I feel like this is sort of how a black and white version of Christmas is, too. It’s clean, minimal, and thought provoking, and the contrast makes a big statement. Although my tree is loaded with bright, colorful balls this year, I definitely see a B&W Christmas at some point in my future.
Black and white may seem a little basic and almost dull in theory, however, these stunning Scandinavian designs prove that it is anything but.
